Formatt-Hitech Neutral Density ND filter, 0.9 (3 Stop) Soft Edge Grad (graduated) enables more control over exposure and depth of field without affecting the colour cast.

These Soft Edge Grad filters are clear in the bottom half of the filter with a gradual/graduated transition to the 0.9 ND in the top half of the filter. This is perfect when shooting landscapes or exteriors or skylines, etc.

Soft Edge Grad filters have a totally sooth transition effect from clear to ND. This allows for protecting of the highlights in the sky/horizon by applying ND to the sky/horizon only, this gives an attractive effect transition at the horizon line, increasing gradually to full 0.9 ND. Perfect when shooting with a bright sky and darker terrain with an undulating horizon (trees, buildings or mountains, etc).

Generally a Soft Edge Grad filter would be used on wide angle lenses and a Hard Edge Grad filter would be used on longer Telephoto lenses, although every application is to personal taste.
